Demeter is the Goddess of Grain, the Harvest and Motherhood. According to Greek mythology she was credited with bringing the gift of agriculture to humanity.
When Demeter’s daughter Persephone the Goddess of Spring went missing Demeter turned the earth to winter as she searched in despair for her daughter. Unbeknownst to Demeter, Hades had abducted Persephone and taken her to the underworld where they fell in love. As winter continued to ravage the earth Zeus was forced to intervene and with the help of Hecate, Persephone was reunited with her Mother and Spring returned. But because Persephone ate pomegranate seeds in the underworld, she must return there for 6 months of the year which is why summer gives way to winter at the Equinox as the cycle continues.
Product Details: Our version of Demeter stands 14 cm/5.5" high, 4 cm/1.5" wide, 4 cm/1.5" deep and weighs 39 gm/1.3 oz.
She is hand-finished in a proprietary process using an aged marble patina. Each one will vary slightly in terms of final shade and sheen.
All of our products are designed and individually 3D printed here in our home studio using a bio-safe, non-toxic, vegetable, wood fibre or sugar-cane based PLA. We then hand-finish each piece, usually smoothing and sanding them using a natural wood fibre material and then acrylic paints or glazes. The cured finishes are non-toxic but the metallic finishes do have the actual metals in them. This is a clean and local process and our materials are selected from those made in Canada or the USA. We are 100% NOT “Made in China” and take some pride in that. Through careful research and testing, we have found a great way to get around the toxic resin and moulding processes used in most of the statues on the market.
